Roma Coach Rudi Garcia believes Juventus are still Scudetto favourites but “we’ll try and upset the odds”.

The Bianconeri have started the season poorly, and are in 12th-place, with Lupi President James Pallotta saying yesterday that the team is “more than good enough” to win the Scudetto.

“The favourite is still Juve,” Garcia considered in his Press conference ahead of the Empoli match.

“Why do I say that? They’ve won four Scudetti in a row, it’s normal that they would be.

“Why do I say that? They’ve won four Scudetti in a row, it’s normal that they would be.

"The League is more open this year though, we’ll try and upset the odds.

“To have a great season we need to avoid long-term injuries, like [Leandro] Castan and [Kevin] Strootman last season.

“When I play, I do it to win. Both in my professional and private life. When I arrived here I wanted to win, we have to do everything knowing that there’s an improvement process we must follow, which we’ve been doing since I arrived.

“The President said that things started two-and-a-half years ago, we have to make sure to improve not only the squad, but also the details, our preparation, our play and consequently the results.”

The Giallorossi have finished second for the past two seasons in a row, a record partially built on their impressive defensive record.

After conceding nine goals in seven games so far this term, is the Coach worried his side have lost their solidity at the back?

“We can do better in defence, but I’ve watched all the goals we conceded and there isn’t a recurring theme.

“It’s all different kinds of goals that we’ve conceded, but I think we’ll improve. We know it depends on the attitude of the team, but the defenders must be true defenders.

“We have two strong goalkeepers [Morgan De Sanctis and Wojciech Szczęsny], the midfield has to protect the defence, and the forward line has to be committed.

“What we don’t want to do is lose the will to attack. To win you need to score, with 38 0-0s you’ll be relegated to Serie B.

“We have to find the balance of conceding fewer goals while continuing to score.”
