“We were relaxed even after the Sampdoria game, but we must always be aware of our capabilities and put that on to the pitch. We’ve done it at times, but others such as against Frosinone and Sassuolo, we didn’t use our strengths properly.
“This evening we did use our qualities in our favour.”
Gervinho scored his first Serie A goal since November 2014, a gap of 300 days.
“We know he can do great things when attacking and he had already impressed in pre-season against Real Madrid and Valencia. He was concentrated and eager to help his Roma.
“The confidence factor is important for all strikers and that includes Gervinho.”
However, there was also bad news as Seydou Keita, Francesco Totti and Edin Dzeko had to be substituted.
“Keita and the captain have muscular injuries, I hope nothing too serious. Dzeko had pain in his knee, he got a few knocks today and had to come off.”
