New PSG coach Christophe Galtier says he will no longer rotate Keylor Navas and Gigio Donnarumma and confirms he will likely use a three-man defence next season.

The France coach held his first press conference as PSG coach on Tuesday, revealing that he will pick one starting goalkeeper between Donnarumma and Navas.

Mauricio Pochettino hadn’t picked a No.1 last season, deciding the starter between the sticks from week to week.

Galtier didn’t comment on the decisions of his predecessor but confirmed that he will use a different approach in 2022-23.

“I will meet the goalkeepers soon. I saw the management during the last season, but I don’t have to comment on it,” he said.

“I have to meet them [the goalkeepers], but I have a principle of appointing a number one and a number two, even if the second [choice goalkeeper] can become a starter depending on performances. It’s easier for me in terms of management and them.”

Donnarumma played 24 games with the Ligue 1 giants last season, conceding 23 goals. He is expected to become the regular starter in Paris next season. Both the Italy international and Navas complained about rotations in 2021-22, but Pochettino never took a final decision.

PSG are also in advanced talks to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter and although Galtier didn’t mention the Inter defender during his presser, he suggested that the Ligue 1 champions will go on the market, looking for a player who can easily adapt to a three-man defence, which wasn’t used by Pochettino last season.

“Above all, I want to put the players in the best position and on their strengths. We talk a lot about a three-man defence, I’m lucky to have strength on the flanks, so there’s a big focus on a three-way defence,” he claimed.

“I haven’t met the players yet, although I’ve talked about it with the management. I will adapt to the players I have at my disposal.”

  1. Good. PSG’s habit of play hoarding is ridiculous. Navas & Donnarumma in goal but they’ve just reluctantly sold Areola and another young goalkeeper. In attack Neymar, Icardi, Mbappe, Messi and the recently released Di Maria – holding 3 of the highest paid, highest rated and most expensive players in world football today..
