Christophe Galtier plays down rumours linking PSG with Inter defender Milan Skriniar, claiming that the Ligue 1 giants need an attacking winger more than a defender.

The French coach discussed PSG’s transfer strategy at a press conference on Friday, playing down rumours that the Ligue 1 giants would try to sign the Nerazzurri star in January.

“I’ve never spoken about defensive reinforcements, we are looking for an attacking winger,” the coach said as quoted by Gazzetta.

“We have sold an attacker [Pablo Sarabia], so we are looking for somebody in the same role. We’ve sold an attacking winger and I’ve never mentioned defensive reinforcements.”

Galtier’s latest quotes sound somehow surprising given that only a few days ago, he claimed that he didn’t know whether Skriniar would join PSG in January or at the end of the season.

The Nerazzurri will still see Skriniar leave as a free agent in June as the player’s agent confirmed last week that his client would not extend his expiring contract at the Stadio Meazza.

The Ligue 1 giants had reached an agreement with the Slovakia international in the summer, but Inter refused to sell for less than €70m.

Inter are unwilling to sell Skriniar for a low fee in January and are ready to keep him at the club until his contract expires on June 30, especially considering that PSG won’t offer more than €10m in the winter transfer window.
