Napoli are still seeking a new coach and former Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier is back to being the front-runner rather than Paulo Sousa.
The club needs a replacement for Luciano Spalletti, who has decided to take a sabbatical after his Scudetto-winning campaign at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Sousa had become the favourite over the last few days, but Sky Sport Italia report that Salernitana are demanding the release clause is paid to get him out of his contract.
The other concern for President Aurelio De Laurentiis is the desire to bring in a coach from abroad rather than someone familiar with Serie A, as he feels it will add more prestige to the role and help in the pursuit of the Champions League.
Galtier already worked with Victor Osimhen at LOSC and so it would be a reunion, but the French coach seems unconvinced by the idea of joining Napoli and is keeping ADL waiting.
He is set to receive circa €6m as a pay-off for his dismissal from PSG.
