Monza have been promoted to Serie B and prepare to invest to help the club reach the top as soon as possible, but CEO Galliani knows it won’t be easy and promises to walk the four-and-a-half-hour journey from the Brianteo Stadium to San Siro if they get to Serie A.

“We will make Monza grow very quickly. [Patron Silvio] Berlusconi has already announced it,” Galliani told Radio 1. “We will try to reach Serie A next year.

“That’s the goal that the President has set earlier this season. Before the championship began, Berlusconi told the players: 'those who believe in it will overcome the obstacles and win'.

“Since I was born in Monza and I’m a big fan of this team, I’m ready to make any kind of bet in case of promotion. If we get to Serie A, I will walk from Brianteo to San Siro.”

Milan are going through constant changes since Berlusconi and Galliani left the Rossoneri but the former CEO has claimed he doesn’t like to speak about the current situation at a former employer.

“Historically there have always been many relationships between Monza and Milan. But when I leave a club, I no longer talk about what happens there.

“I’m a huge fan of Milan and I watch every game, but I won’t talk about them.”

Galliani admitted he wants to see fans in the stands by September and thinks it’s no different from opening cinemas and theatres.

“I hope the stadiums can be reopened already in mid-July. With reduced capacities, but I don’t see why the gates can’t be reopened.

“Since the cinemas and theatres are opening up again, the world of football must try to have the fans, or at least partly, before September.”
