Monza CEO Adriano Galliani has suggested to ‘do as in South America’ and complete the upcoming championship in the next calendar year.

The resumption of the European Leauges has been widely discussed and Galliani claimed changing the format completely could provide ‘a good solution’.

“For two years, do as in South America, championships in the calendar year,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “The 2020-21 season could begin in February 2021, the same thing the following year.

“After that, you can also go back to old habits, but I’m sure that in two years we will be convinced that this represents a good solution. In July and August, playing in the evening, it will be great to watch the games. I think we would even have a bigger audience.

“FIFA moved the 2022 World Cup to the end of the year; we should do the same with the European Championship and the Copa America in 2021.

“You can also leave Euro 2021 in the summer, interrupting the championship, but you must get back on the pitch.”
