Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said they “tried to the end for Axel Witsel,” but couldn’t agree terms with Zenit.
The Rossoneri had been in negotiations for months, but gave up before the Serie A deadline tonight.
“We tried to the end for Witsel, but we knew it would finish this way,” shrugged Galliani to reporters.
He left Casa Milan after failing to sign any new players on deadline day.
Alessandro Matri was loaned to Lazio, while Hachim Mastour is heading to Malaga on loan with option and counter-option.
