Adriano Galliani says Pippo Inzaghi is ‘working on’ Milan’s defensive fragility, but isn’t disheartened by recent results.

The Rossoneri have provided entertainment at both ends of the pitch so far this term, scoring a League-high 10 from the first four rounds of the season, but also conceding a second-highest total of eight.

With particular vulnerability shown to Empoli in midweek, it was the back-line that was the topic of conversation with the club’s Vice-President today.

“Inzaghi is well aware of our defensive frailties,” Galliani responded to reporters outside the League headquarters today.

“We have the best attack in the League, but also the second worst defence.

“Inzaghi knows we need to address this. He and Mauro Tassotti are working to improve under this aspect.

A new formation? I’m not going to say anything on this…when Pippo has his Press conference, ask him.

“The team’s attitude? I did not see them play badly in the first half at Empoli, but we conceded twice from dead-balls.

“Overall though I do not believe we played badly.”

One positive in attack has been Keisuke Honda’s form.

“Honda has always been a very important player and I think he is going back to the one he once was in Russia and with Japan.

“When he arrived he had never stopped but this summer at least he had taken some time off for himself and enjoyed some holidays. And now he is doing what we expected him to do.”

The CEO also talked about the Italian Super Cup being set for Qatar in December.

“I think that it is nice to go there. Qatar is a country that is doing a lot for football. And about the World Cup in 2022 I don’t think it would be a problem to play in winter. I don’t think there would be insuperable hurdles to overcome if we were to do it once in a lifetime.”
