Monza CEO Adriano Galliani has effectively confirmed Alessandro Nesta will be their new coach, but only after terminating the contract with Reggiana.

The former Milan defender was brought to San Siro by Galliani as a player and they remained in contact over the years, ready to reunite at the U-Power Stadium.

It has been reported for several days now that a deal is done between Monza and the ex-Lazio centre-back to replace Raffaele Palladino, who left to take over at Fiorentina.

“Nesta is registered to Reggiana, a club we are friendly with, so let’s just leave him be and then see what happens,” Galliani told reporters.

“Obviously, some love affairs never quite end… I think Nesta can do great things, but we’ll take about that later on.”

Galliani was attending the presentation of a new book about Silvio Berlusconi’s time as the President of Milan, with the CEO at his side for over 30 years.

Nesta is now 48 years old and started his coaching career at Miami FC in 2015, then going on to Serie B experiences with Perugia, Frosinone and since the summer of 2023 at Reggiana.

This season, his team put together 10 wins, 17 draws and 11 defeats in Serie B, finishing in 11th place.
