Monza general manager Adriano Galliani confirms Papu Gomez is a friend, but insists they ‘never talked’ about his move to the club from Sevilla.
The 34-year-old is on the verge of winning the World Cup with Argentina, as the squad goes into Sunday’s Final against France in Qatar.
He picked up an injury during the 2-1 win over Australia in the Round of 16 and is a major doubt to feature in the closing fixture.
His future is also up in the air with reports of a return to Serie A for Monza in January, just two years after leaving Atalanta for Sevilla.
“No, Papu is a friend, but we never talked to him about that,” Galliani told reporters after a Lega Serie A meeting.
There are also suggestions Alessio Cragno could leave Monza in January after failing to make a single appearance since the loan from Cagliari.
“I don’t know, we’re not talking about the transfer market right now.”
