Galeone: ‘Allegri dreaming of Italy, not Saudi Arabia or Premier League’

Massimiliano Allegri ‘is not dreaming of Saudi Arabia or England, he dreams of the Italian national team,’ confirmed mentor Giovanni Galeone.

The veteran had coached Allegri as a player and they remained good friends over the decades, sharing ideas after years of mixed results at Juventus.

Allegri was fired by the Bianconeri towards the end of last season and then terminated his contract by mutual consent, so is now a free agent.

He has been linked with numerous roles, including the Saudi Pro League and the Premier League, which would bring lucrative salaries.

Galeone gives Allegri insight

“Allegri is not dreaming of Saudi Arabia or England,” Galeone told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“He earned a lot in his career, so his next choice will certainly not depend on the money that he’ll get. Allegri is dreaming of the Italian national team and maybe one day he’ll make it happen.

“However, for now let us hold on tight to Luciano Spalletti, because he is a great coach in my view. I think he did the best he could at EURO 2024, as with another coach we probably would not even have got out of the group stage.”

He has been repeatedly mentioned as a potential replacement should Spalletti resign or be sacked following the flop at EURO 2024.

The Azzurri were eliminated by Switzerland in the Round of 16, having scraped through the group thanks to a last-gasp Mattia Zaccagni equaliser against Croatia.

They also lost 1-0 to Spain and beat Albania 2-1, fighting back from a goal in the opening minute.
