Galatasaray tried to launch a late move for Matias Vecino but will not get their hands on the Lazio veteran, reports detail.

The 32-year-old Uruguayan midfielder joined the Biancocelesti last summer on a free transfer after leaving Inter, being a specific request of coach Maurizio Sarri.

Vecino has proven himself an important part of the Lazio setup and featured prominently last season, seeing over 2200 minutes of action across 44 total appearances.

As highlighted by Alfredo Pedulla, Galatasaray set their sights on Vecino and tried to make a serious move for the Lazio midfielder last week, opening talks with the Roman club.

With the Turkish transfer window closing later this week, the Istanbul outfit continued to explore a last-minute move, but the Biancocelesti were clear in their refusal, considering him a key cog in the system.

Vecino has already made two appearances for Lazio this season, coming off the bench in their losses to Lecce and Genoa.
