Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk spoke highly of Nicolo Zaniolo and confirmed the Turkish club’s interest in the Roma outcast.

The Super Lig side are currently negotiating a deal for the 23-year-old with the Giallorossi, offering a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause attached worth around €22m.

Roma would like this figure to be a little higher and the two clubs will continue their talks today to try and iron out an agreement.

Speaking after Galatasaray’s 2-1 win over Trabzonspor, a game in which ex-Serie A stars Dries Mertens and Mauro Icardi both scored, Buruk discussed Zaniolo and the possibility of signing the Roma forward in the coming days.

“Zaniolo is a world-class player. He is a player we would like to see in the squad, although we don’t know exactly his relationship with Roma.

“If you asked me though, ‘Would you like to see him in the team?’ Of course I’d like to see him here.”

Buruk then revealed that he’s kept a close eye on Zaniolo since he faced Roma in the Europa League in the 2019-20 season, when he was the head coach of Istanbul Basaksehir.

Galatasaray will continue talks with Roma in the coming hours and are confident that a deal can be agreed, with flights and the medicals already being booked.
