Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini said the Scudetto triuph was ‘the realisation of a dream’ and recalled the warm welcome at San Siro in January 2017.

The midfielder, capped seven times by Italy, has spent the last four years with the Beneamata and spoke to the Matchday Programme ahead of this weekend’s game against Udinese.

Gagliardini has played 144 competitive games with the Nerazzurri and spoke about the emotions after securing the Scudetto in 2020-21 under Antonio Conte.

“Winning the Scudetto is one of the best moments I’ve experienced at Inter, it was the realisation of a dream,” Gagliardini said in the Matchday programme.

“Even playing the Europa League Final, despite it not going well, was an important milestone.”

Gagliardini, who has played five times in Serie A and twice in the Champions League under Simone Inzaghi, then added that former Nerazzurro striker Roberto Baggio was one of his idols growing up.

“There are many players that I have followed because they had a great career,” he continued. “Baggio is one of them, a great champion.

“I also had the good fortune to meet him, he’s very charismatic.”

The 27-year-old, who arrived from Atalanta in January 2017, recalls his debut with the Nerazzurri.

“I still remember the sensations of that day, the cold in mid-January and the warmth of San Siro, where they gave me a special welcome,” he said.

“I started the game and celebrated a 3-1 win with my new teammates. Two months after the debut with the Nerazzurri, I made my debut with the national team, another one of the days that will remain in my memory forever.

“I think this is one of the most exciting stages for a player. I entered in place of [Daniele] De Rossi in Amsterdam: We won 2-1.”
