Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa could return to Serie A for a new adventure in Italy as Fiorentina and Bologna have set their sights on the Flamengo striker.

The Brazilian forward failed to settle with the Nerazzurri upon his arrival in August 2016 and only managed 10 appearances before his eventual move to Flamengo in January 2019, initially on loan before he completed a definitive transfer.

Gabigol has reinvented his career since joining Flamengo, scoring 151 goals across 282 games, helping the club win two Copa Libertadores and two Brazilian league titles over the last five years. Earlier this year, he was accused of attempted anti-doping fraud, which has been appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Serie A return for Gabigol?

TMW details how Fiorentina and Bologna are both seriously interested in making a move for Gabigol this summer, aware that he could be signed for as low as €5m considering that he has six months left on his contract with Flamengo.

Both Italian clubs will wait to see the outcome of his appeal at CAS before deciding whether or not to pull the trigger. He would be handed a ban should the ruling go against him.
