Sampdoria forward Manolo Gabbiadini must wait to see if there is ligament damage after badly spraining his ankle against Milan.

The former Southampton man was in tears on the touchline after being helped off the pitch during last night’s Serie A 1-0 home defeat.

He fell very heavily onto his left leg and the ankle visibly turned in an unnatural way.

A statement from Samp confirms initial tests have shown a sprain to the left ankle, but more tests are planned for the next few days after some physiotherapy.

This is because the ankle is so swollen that it needs to go down a little before the tests for ligament damage can be considered accurate.
