He has recently faced calls to stand down, with San Siro fans taking to the streets of Milan to protest against his leadership of the club.

However, according to the Italian sports daily, the consortium have asked for more time in order to complete the necessary documentation for the deal to go through.

Preliminary forms confirming that the move was set to go ahead were due to be completed by the end of the month, but with their non-arrival the deal cannot progress. It is expected the documentation will not be complete for ‘at least a couple of weeks.’

The takeover is cast into further doubt by the report’s claim that the group still does not have the necessary finances to support it.

In the meantime, the Rossoneri will have to continue to self-finance, limiting their ability to sign transfer targets.
