Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani admits Alvaro Morata’s leadership skills impressed him and confirms Lazar Samardzic and Youssouf Fofana are ‘good players’, but the Rossoneri won’t be ‘distracted by rumours.’

Furlani was in Madrid on Wednesday to follow Alvaro Morata’s medical tests and sign a contract with the Spain international. The ex-Juventus forward will join the Rossoneri for €13m.

Furlani had already praised Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paulo Fonseca for their contribution in convincing Morata to move to San Siro, but said more about the deal during an interview with Gazzetta.

Furlani admits Milan targets are ‘good players’ why Morata impressed him

“Alvaro scored 21 goals with Atletico Madrid last season, plus those with the national team. He has scored goals everywhere. Itay, Spain, England, Champions League,” said the Rossoneri CEO.

“He has won 20 trophies in his career, and this habit of success has been key to us. We are very satisfied. Let me add two things. Alvaro has a great desire to join Milan, and he’s convinced that this will be the best step in an already brilliant career. We absolutely share the same view. Secondly, I know why he was chosen as the national team captain. He is a leader, something that impressed me.”

Morata is now on holiday after the Euros and will officially join the Rossoneri in August.

He is Milan’s first summer signing, but the Rossoneri are also said to be in talks with another striker and are expected to sign at least one new defender and a central midfielder.

“We know what we are doing and won’t be distracted by the rumours,” insisted Furlani.

“We were not shy one year ago, but we had to change half of the team. We don’t have the same nee this time, so we are moving for specific targets.”

Monaco midfielder Fofana and Udinese‘s Samardzic are among the Rossoneri targets in midfield.

“They are good players, but we don’t focus on just one player,” warned the Milan director.

“That’s the way to go. I repeat, the 2024 summer will be very different from 2023.”

Milan will start the new Serie A campaign at home against Torino on August 17, 2024.
