Milan director Giorgio Furlani prepares to host Juventus and insists the club only ‘reads the news the same way you do’ about Sandro Tonali’s ban now he is at Newcastle United.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Antonio Mirante has his first start in Serie A since 2021, as Mike Maignan is suspended and Marco Sportiello injured, so it is down to the third-choice goalkeeper.

Theo Hernandez is also banned, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Samuel Chukwueze, Ismael Bennacer, Mattia Caldara and Davide Bartesaghi injured.

“These are important games, but then all matches are important. We live for these fixtures and the fans welcome us with the same warm approach as always,” Furlani told DAZN.

Although he is no longer their player, Tonali was placing bets when he was with the Rossoneri and will now sit out a ban of at least a year for Newcastle United.

His suspension will not impact on Milan, but how has the club reacted to finding out he was suffering from a gambling addiction when they were unaware of it?

“All Milanisti care for Sandro, so this situation is sad. We read the news the same way you do, we have no other information or communication. It seems as if this is a wide-spread problem, so as Italian football we need to think carefully what to do about this.”

Furlani is also working to help Serie A become a more internationally-renowned league, after a period of struggles that were mainly financial.

“We have climbed back up the standings in recent years, we want to continue doing that good work. It is a fascinating and entertaining league with four different winners in the last four years, we had some good results in Europe too.”
