Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani reveals play will halt against Bologna at the 16th minute to send an anti-racism message to those who abused Mike Maignan.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT.

Last week’s 3-2 win away to Udinese was almost abandoned due to racist abuse from local fans towards Maignan.

The referee halted play and Maignan was tempted to walk off, but was convinced to remain and stick to the protocol.

“Mike is doing well, he wants us all to stop talking and actually do something,” CEO Furlani told Sky Sport Italia.

“We must not forget the shameful and disgusting events of last week. We are always alert on these issues and today will have initiatives too. I don’t want people to just forget, keep playing and that’s all.

“With the institutions, the other teams and the Lega Serie A, we all must change something. At the 16th minute today, for a brief moment, we will stop play. I won’t tell you any more, as it would ruin the moment and the surprise.”

The Rossoneri are seeking a fifth consecutive Serie A victory that would not only consolidate third place, but perhaps even allow them to close the gap on top two Juventus and Inter.

That becomes even more important now that 10-man Juve have been held to a 1-1 draw by Empoli.

“Milan are looking at today’s opponents, who are strong and dangerous. We are concentrated on ourselves and doing well.”

Furlani was also asked about the search for a new defender on the January transfer market.

“We are doing well, Gabbia returned and those who are injured will be back soon. We have a solid group and no urgency to intervene.”

Are Milan also interested in Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee for next summer?

“We never talked about him, that is you journalists.”
