Milan director Giorgio Furlani confirms the club has been ‘talking to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for many months’ about returning in a new role. ‘He really cares about Milan.’

The Rossoneri host PSG this evening in the Champions League and it kicks off at San Siro at 20.00 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from this game and Lazio-Feyenoord on the LIVEBLOG.

“Historically we like the Champions League, it is important to do well today so we have a better chance of progress,” Furlani told Sky Sport Italia.

They have failed to score a single goal yet in the tournament, managing two points from three games and sitting bottom of the group.

“We are united, even more so during the more difficult moments. We are all together, the owners, club, staff and players.”

Milan and RedBird patron Gerry Cardinale is in the stadium this evening and has been talking to Ibrahimovic about returning to the club in a directorial role after his retirement over the summer.

“Gerry likes to win, so obviously he is happier when we win, hopefully we can get back to winning,” added Furlani.

“Zlatan is a champion who is dear to all Milanisti. We have been talking to him for many months and we’ll see what happens. I don’t want to discuss roles right now, but he is a great champion, a great person, he really cares about Milan and then we’ll see what happens.”

There were multiple reports today that Ibrahimovic has already agreed the basic details on a return in a role similar to team manager, linking the club to the squad and coach Stefano Pioli.
