Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t shown up for the Ballon d’Or ceremony as he did during his time at Juventus and hit out at France Football’s editor-in-chief Pascal Ferré on social media.

The Ballon d’Or ceremony is ongoing in Paris, but the former Juventus star is not among those attending.

Ronaldo will finish in the top 10 but he is not tipped to win the award with Leo Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho the leading candidates to be named best player of the year.

Ronaldo hardly participates in ceremonies that don’t end with him raising the trophy.

Back in 2018, he didn’t participate in the Ballon d’Or ceremony and ‘The Best’ award, both won by his former teammate Luka Modric who had reached the World Cup Final with Croatia.

Ballon d’Or ceremony live: Messi wins, Jorginho ranked 3rd

He did the same thing one year later, not attending the ceremony that saw Messi get the award.

On that occasion, Modric hit out at his former Real Madrid teammate.

“I am here because football is about respect,” he said. “I am here to give pass the award to Messi and congratulate him. You must show respect also when you don’t win, that’s what football is about.”

Meantime, Ronaldo has shared a message on social media against Pascal Ferre, the editor-in-chief at France Football magazine who claimed CR7’s only ambition is to end with more Ballon d’Or trophies than Messi.

“Today’s outcome explains why Pascal Ferré’s statements last week, when he stated that I confided in him that my only ambition was to finish my career with more Golden Balls than Lionel Messi. Pascal Ferre lied, he used my name to promote himself and to promote the publication he works for,” Ronaldo wrote.

“It is unacceptable that the person responsible for awarding such a prestigious prize could lie in this way, in absolute disrespect for someone who has always respected France Football and the Ballon d’Or.

“And he lied again today, justifying my absence from the Gala with an alleged quarantine that has no reason to exist. I always want to congratulate those who win, within the sportsmanship and fair-play that have guided my career since the beginning, and I do it because I’m never against anyone.

“I always win for myself and for the clubs I represent, I win for myself and for those who love me. I don’t win against anyone.

“The biggest ambition of my career is to win national and international titles for the clubs I represent and for the national team in my country.”

  1. Good. Maybe they’ll kick him out of the play-off’s instead of targeting Italy now. How can any one get 7 Balon’bore’s though? That’s like sayin’ Messi is 5 or 6 times better than Cruyff or Pele or somethin?’ That’s ridiculi. He’s not even 5 times better than Zidane or Roby Baggio! How can any one not tell that it’s a media-driven, fraudulent drama? Ron vs Messi! Too much is made of longevity, statistics, fitness, trophies + numbers these days though. Aliens, my ersa? Neither of ’em are fit to be mentioned in the same bracket as Diego, in terms of natural talent. And if the Ron & Messi crowd think that’s disresptful. You’re disrespectful for disregarding true legends + for overestimating a couple of talented but ref-protected, choir boys!?

  2. Beautifully said Home Party. These guys would not have survived in the 70’s, 80′, and 90’s – defenders would have ended both of their careers at 28, just like Van Basten’s. That’s why Maradona and others will always be better than these two. Does anyone really care about the Ballon ‘Farce’??

  3. Home party well said, agreed its a sham. Messi couldnt shine any of the guys you mentioned shoes, not even close and he still cant and wont win a world cup. Today its different its all about the media and what gets attention or likes. Todays generation dont know about what players were really like or made of. All about $$$$ and selling garbage. Messi and all the others mentioned would be ball boys next to the others mentioned.

  4. Sorry mate but its 10x harder to score now than it was back then. Same goes for for just about every sport thats evolved with tactics, nutrition and training, IQ and positioning of players. Give me a break.

  5. Its because cr7 is not in Spain that why all the envy quite off is copa better than champions league…….
All this nonsense …….is messi is in Paris

  6. Well said by everyone commenting here so far.

Messi transfers to PSG…and wins Ballon d’Or. Quel surpres!

  7. I agree the Messi win was staged. And the players on these teams that somehow get past FFP rules, should not be in the running for awards. That includes CR7. I want for Italy to beat a full strength Portugal to make the Cup. No one saying that we sneaked in. That is assuming a lot. But if the best players are on the pitch, Italy can make it on merit. One last thing, help me figure out Jorginho #3??? Or Bonucci even on the list?

  8. He better be absent from the playoffs or else I will have to stock pile up on the pampers extra strong. Where is Rosario when you need him. He said he was going to change me yesterday but he told me to wait. Vittorio, Villarusso, ITALIAN ALL THE WAY, frankie help can you change my pannolino?

  9. @Dangerboy…

    1. Let’s wait to see who’s avsilable.

Spinazzola, Kean, Immobile, Il Faraone for example.

    2. Let’s see if Mancio decides to call up any or all of the Brazilian naturalized Italians.

    3. Soulè, who is Argentine, has a current Italian passport and is, therefore, eligible to represent the Nazionale. As you know, he is a forward/striker.

    4. Let’s see what role Lucca plays as striker for us.

    5. Hopefully Verratti is healthy along with Berardi and perhaps Zaniolo becomes a game changer with pace.

    6. Let’s look forward to having Pessina back from injury and perhaps Darmian gets considered.

    7. Let’s not forget Tonali either.

    What say you?

  10. Not understanding the confusion here. The second Messi won with Argentina he was a lock for the prize. In 2010 he stole the prize over iniesta who literally won Spain the WC while Messi won zero and nobody said squat now he legitimately wins something and the same minions are confused. Ya so am I.
