Fikayo Tomori and Ismael Bennacer could not hide their frustration as they took to their official Instagram accounts reacting to Atletico Madrid‘s controversial win over Milan.

The Rossoneri suffered a 2-1 defeat at San Siro last night with a late spot-kick converted by Luis Suarez.

The penalty kick was caused by a Pierre Kalulu handball, but VAR didn’t see Thomas Lemar had handled the ball before the Milan defender so VAR should have revoked it.

It was Milan’s second defeat from two Champions League games so far this season.

Only three Milan players took to their social media accounts to react after the defeat. Among those former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori who posted an Instagram story with two emojis that describe quite well his and his teammates’ feelings after the final whistle.

Why VAR should’ve revoked Atletico Madrid penalty against Milan

Bennacer also took to his official social media accounts, posting a picture from the game and just writing: ‘Frustration…’

Rafael Leao, who had scored his first Champions League goal in the first half, shared a message in Italian: ‘I am sorry for the result, but I’m proud of my teammates. Thanks to all the fans for the support, Forza Milan always!’

  1. starting 11 with the average age of 23 full of young players bound to show frustration and let off steam. Today is a new role, and we need to move on. Big game on Saturday. Whilst the referee being a pile of garbage, I’m more preoccupied with the zonal marking disaster that was on the Griezmann goal. I hope that goal gets reviewed in training. Romagnoli can’t be doing that with his experience.

  2. To be fair legs were gone and they were pressing hard, there will also be lapses in any team and it was inevitable one would be pounced on. I’d have been gobsmacked if that finished 1-0.

The referee was beyond a joke and 100% cost us points in a game we were controlling, but I take heart from that. But for a couple of decisions we could be on 4 points now which is more than I thought we’d get in 6 games!

The biggest disappointment for me was Ballo Toure using his fresh legs to run around like a headless chicken. Gabbia would have sured up what would basically have been a back 5 and then Tomori could have had the freedom to push forward when needed. But what do I know?

Biggest tactical mistake was bringing on Giroud. You’re absolutely right that had we put on another defender to keep the midfield and defence compact, I don’t think we’d have even conceded. Giroud came on and with no one pacey threatening their defence, they could push up and quickly turn over balls and begin the attack again. Harsh on Giroud as he was isolated, but he also put in very little effort to hold up the balls played into him. Can’t really blame Ballo-Toure as he was played out of position. From a tactical point of view, putting giroud on changed the game.

  4. Actually yeah, the BIGGEST disappointment was bring off the two men that might push Atleti back (if we can keep Leao and Diaz I’m very excited for the future) and asking Giroud to hold up the ball for absolutely no one.

Still, it’s nice to have been livid that we didn’t beat the Spanish champions. Having now slept, I’ll take that.

  5. can someone remind me of Giroud attributes and why we signed him
I wish we still had Hauge at least he would’ve had a run at their defence

  6. @Acm You mean beyond the good looking, reasonable (cheap) wages, acts like a “big brother” in the locker room, and occasional offensive production…no particular reason ^_^. I can see him starting then being subbed out, but subbed in while a man down.
