Torino were beaten 1-0 by Stade Rennais, while Udinese crumbled 4-1 against Lens, as the French season is about to kick off.

The Granata gave new signing Marko Pjaca his debut after the transfer from Juventus, on loan with option to buy that could become an obligation if certain circumstances are met.

There were 11,000 spectators watching Ivan Juric’s team, who only conceded the crucial goal when Terrier made the most of a Sasa Lukic error.

Bremer went off with a knock to the ankle, while Pjaca hit the crossbar.

With perhaps a sign of things to come, Torino coach Juric was sent off during the pre-season friendly for arguing with the referee.

Udinese have been far from impressive this summer, or indeed towards the end of last season, and that trend continued with a 4-1 defeat to Lens.

Lens included former Udinese players Seko Fofana and Doucoure.

They had been 3-0 down at half-time to Wooh’s header, Boura on the rebound from Marco Silvestri’s save on Fofana and Banza finishing off the counter caused by Tolgay Arslan’s error.

Defender Samir managed to get one back from an Ignacio Pussetto assist, but David Costa sealed the rout late on.
