Empoli beat Turkish giants Trabzonspor 1-0 with a Mattia Destro strike, while Monza crushed Renate 4-0 and Udinese came back to defeat Cypriots Pafos.

The Serie A season begins on August 13 and the squads continue their preparations to get into shape.

Trabzonspor visited Empoli in Austria for a game played behind closed doors.

Summer signing Destro, a free agent after leaving Genoa, proved decisive with the only goal after 14 minutes, his header from a corner was initially parried and he was alert on the rebound.

Djaniny came closest to an equaliser by clipping the upright, while Tommaso Baldanzi was denied by a desperate close-range save.

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Monza swept Renate aside 4-0 with Andrea Colpani, Christian Gytkjaer’s brace and an own goal.

Udinese continue getting to grips with new coach Andrea Sottil and had gone behind early on against Pafos of Cyprus, surprised by Jairo.

However, in the final minutes they turned it around with Lazar Samardzic scoring and then assisting Isaac Success, but there are still clear problems in defence for the Friulani.
