Former goalkeeper Sebastien Frey advises his old club Inter on who follows Samir Handanovic, the best shot-stopper in the world and what Gianluigi Donnarumma should do next.
The Frenchman spent most of his career in Italy with Parma, Inter and Fiorentina, so he is cheering on the Nerazzurri in the Scudetto race.
“Handanovic is no longer 20 years old and Inter are right to start looking around for his successor, but that doesn’t mean he needs to be replaced immediately,” Frey told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Handanovic is no longer 20 years old and Inter are right to start looking around for his successor, but that doesn’t mean he needs to be replaced immediately,” Frey told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He has given so much to this club and nobody deserves the Scudetto more than Samir, who is one of the protagonists of this winning reconstruction.
“For the future, I think Juan Musso of Udinese could be the right profile for Inter, as he settled quickly into Serie A and I consider him a complete goalkeeper.
“I won’t snub the Italians, like Alessio Cragno at Cagliari.”
Inter do have a goalkeeper on their bench, Ionut Radu, who has not made a single appearance this season and that has damaged his international career with Romania.
“Radu absolutely needs to go elsewhere and play. He proved himself on loan at Genoa and needs to continue that journey, even though he’s not ready to start for a big club like Inter. This is why a loan is necessary.”
Milan are again in negotiations with Donnarumma to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season, but considering alternatives too.
“Donnarumma already spoke to me a few years ago and I give him the same advice now that I did then: he has to stay, he has the Rossoneri badge sewn to his chest. He is young and can become the future captain, even a new Paolo Maldini one-club man.
“Milan are ambitious, the results are coming, so in his shoes I’d reconsider a thousand times before walking away.”
If Donnarumma does leave, the Diavolo have been linked with Mike Maignan.
“He’s doing well at Lille and is in the national squad for France. He’s an interesting goalkeeper with ample room for improvement,” noted Frey.
“The best in the world has gone back to being Manuel Neuer, who has returned to his level. I could never rule out Jan Oblak, who I’ve always liked.
“Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is one of my favourites, even if he is damaged by the general problems at Barcelona. As a fourth in the world, I’d pick Alisson, despite the fact he’s off form lately.”
