Former goalkeeper Sebastien Frey thinks that Inter have the chance to sign Karim Benzema this month, calling the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner ‘a possibility’ for the club.

The 36-year-old French striker left Europe for Saudi Arabia last summer, joining Al-Ittihad on a lucrative three-year contract worth up to €200m net per season. He has started fairly well in the Saudi Pro League, scoring nine goals and providing five assists across 15 matches.

Benzema has reportedly grown unhappy with life at Al-Ittihad and is keen to leave the club this month. He was recently excluded from the club’s training camp in Dubai and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

Speaking to TV Play via Calciomercato.com, Frey discussed Benzema’s situation and suggested that he could make the jump to Inter this month.

“Benzema is at odds with Saudi Arabia, he could be on the market as early as January. I’ve read and heard about Marotta, who hasn’t said yes to his arrival but hasn’t denied it either. The priority is Sanchez’s exit, if he leaves Inter then Benzema can be a possibility.”

Alexis Sanchez’s contract with Inter expires at the end of this season and for now he’s rebuffed any interest from Saudi Arabia.

Should things change and the Chilean forward decides to leave in the coming weeks, the Nerazzurri could try for Benzema, although it’s hard to imagine how they could afford his wages.
