Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler said Granit Xhaka, who is linked with a move to Roma, ‘asked me how the roads in Italy are’.

The Switzerland midfielder prepares to face Italy in Group A of Euro 2020 on Wednesday and spoke to Il Corriere dello Sport, where he dropped a hint about Xhaka.

The Gunners midfielder has been linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Roma this summer and Freuler said he had asked him about the country.

“Earlier he asked me how the roads in Italy are,” Freuler told Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Swiss midfielder said he looks forward facing his Atalanta teammates at the Olimpico this week.

“It will be very nice to see my teammates again, tomorrow I will send a message to [Rafael] Toloi and [Matteo] Pessina and we will see each other on the pitch on Wednesday.

“I have always dreamed of playing against Italy at least once, I have always said it even in previous years that I would have liked it very much.”

Switzerland drew 1-1 with Wales in the first match but Freuler said they are ‘not feeling the pressure’.

“We don’t feel the pressure,” he continued. “We took a point and we still have two games that we want to win.”

But the 29-year-old, who is familiar with the Italian side, said Switzerland will ‘press Italy to create some problems’ for the Azzurri defence.

“We have to play our own game,” he said. “We must try to press Italy to create some problems in defence.

“If we are too deep, as Turkey played, everything becomes easier. We have to dribble well, be compact and be able to finish and, hopefully, score.”
