Bologna loanee Remo Freuler was officially unveiled in front of the press on Friday afternoon, where he told the media that a difference in opinion with Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper led to his Premier League departure after just one full season.

The 31-year-old moved to Forest last August for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of €9m.

However, despite making 28 league appearances and helping to secure Premier League survival for the Midlanders, Freuler was deemed surplus to requirements and was allowed to leave on loan at the end of the transfer window.

Despite moving so late on in the summer, Freuler has insisted that he is match fit, and recently started both of Switzerland’s matches in the international break, chipping in with a goal in a 2-2 draw with Kosovo last weekend.

“I’m good, I’ve done all the training with Nottingham this summer, I played in the friendlies as well, it’s just the league matches that I haven’t played in so far. With the national team, I started twice, so on the pitch, it’s all good.”

Then, the Swiss international explained that his relationship with Cooper had taken a few hits by the end of the season, ultimately leading to his Bologna loan.

“I don’t think it went badly in Nottingham,” he said. “Our objective was to survive, we did that. From a personal point of view, it’s only really the last five games of the season that I didn’t play.

“First, he [Cooper] made me captain, then I don’t quite know what happened. I spoke to him, he didn’t explain to me exactly what was going wrong and by the end, I think we were on a slightly different wavelength.”
