Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler wants Atalanta ‘to look ahead’ and get the most out of ‘an important’ match against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League.

Only two and a half months after the quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the prestigious competition, a new adventure starts for La Dea.

Freuler admitted he recently watched the match against the French champions but vowed to look ahead and ‘prepare well’ for the new season in Europe.

“I watched the match against PSG again,” Freuler admitted at a press conference. “But from a certain point you need to look ahead.

“We are here in Denmark and an important match awaits us. If we think about three months ago, it means we haven’t prepared well.”

“It’s hard to say, you have to set yourself goals but prioritise those of the group,” he added. “It’s the Champions League and we want to win.”

In 2018, Atalanta were eliminated from the Europa League qualifiers against FC Copenhagen and Freuler urges his teammates to not take anything for granted against Midtjylland.

“It was a match we could have won but we were eliminated in the end,” Freuler said. “The Danish teams are tactically and physically strong.

“We have prepared in the best way for the match, but we’ll see on the pitch tomorrow.”
