The Final kicks off on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT) at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia.

“We’ve been working for years to lift a trophy, so this can mean a great deal for us,” said Freuler in his press conference.

“We reached the Final just as they did, it’s a one-off game on neutral turf, so it’s 50-50. There are no favourites and we feel ready to win this Cup.

“A trophy is an added bonus for a player, as a child you dream of lifting a Cup and I can’t wait.”

Atalanta did reach the Coppa Italia Final two years ago, losing to Lazio.

“I think we’ve changed a great deal since then. We have a much stronger squad than two years ago, we have the confidence of knowing we’ve played other Finals and other knockout rounds, so we’re certainly more prepared.”

Giorgio Chiellini said he wanted to stop the Atalanta fairy tale, but does Freuler see themselves as still just living a dream?

“We feel that we’re a reality now more than a fairy tale. Juve might not see it that way, even thought we already beat them this season and will finish ahead of them in the table. We feel that we are a solid team and can beat anyone.”

Freuler was asked which of the Juventus players he fears the most.

“If I am afraid of playing, the coach won’t pick me, so I say nobody!

“I am very happy that the fans are back, as we really missed them and hope we can make our supporters happy.”

The Switzerland international was rather irritated when asked whose jersey he will ask for, referencing his own story that Cristiano Ronaldo refused to swap shirts.

“The fans get annoyed, we are not here for these gags. If someone wants my jersey, he can have it, but that’s not why we are here.”
