Veteran Germany international defender Mats Hummels has thanked Bologna for their interest, but will not be joining as a free agent.
According to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, the decision has finally been made and passed on to the Serie A club after weeks of negotiations.
They had hoped to tempt the 35-year-old to his first Italian experience, especially as they qualified for the Champions League and needed a defender after selling Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal.
No Serie A adventure for Hummels
Hummels is a free agent after his contract with Borussia Dortmund ran down on June 30 and he also represented Germany at EURO 2024.
He spent his entire career in the Bundesliga between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
Milan and Roma had also been linked, but do not seem to consider him a priority for this season.
There were also reports over the last few days that he had turned down proposals from MLS and the Saudi Pro League, but is still considering his options.
Bologna r 2 stingy and the offer is ridiculous. They will battle for relegation.
