Former Rennes and Bordeaux goalkeeper Benoit Costil has arrived at Salernitana’s summer training camp ahead of completing a move on a free transfer in the coming days.

Costil is currently a free agent after the expiry of his short-term contract with Lille, who he joined in January to provide cover for Lucas Chevalier and Adam Jakubech.

At 36 years of age, Costil has an enormous wealth of experience in Ligue 1. Although he did not feature in the league for Lille, he has previously registered 219 top-flight appearances for Rennes, 164 for Bordeaux and 16 for newly-promoted Auxerre in the first half of the 2022-23 season.

He had also been a regular in the France national team squad between 2016 and 2021, although was limited to just one cap, largely due to the presence of mainstay and captain Hugo Lloris.

Costil will come in and provide competition for Guillermo Ochoa, 38, who was crowned as Salernitana’s player of the season at the end of the most recent campaign.

As per Gianluca Di Marzio, Costil will undergo his medical on Monday.
