Davide Frattesi did not hold back in his criticism of Italy fans who were jeering Gianluigi Donnarumma. ‘It is shameful, I have never seen an international player booed by his own crowd.’

This is not the first time that the former Milan goalkeeper has been loudly jeered by his own fans when representing the Azzurri at San Siro.

Despite coach Luciano Spalletti’s appeals and the rest of the crowd trying to drown them out by chanting ‘Gigio, Gigio’, it was painfully clear that a large section of the home crowd was whistling every time Donnarumma had the ball at his feet.

Even with the result against Ukraine in doubt during the 2-1 victory and with the goalkeeper under pressure from opposition strikers, they continued to put petty club considerations above what was good for their country.

“It was honestly shameful,” brace hero Frattesi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I have never seen anything like this, an international player booed by his own crowd. I do not understand why he gets jeered like that, we are representing Italy here.

“I went over, told him he’s great and that we love him, but he doesn’t need it. Donnarumma is a top player, he can handle this easily and just shakes it off.”

Milan fans eager to insult Donnarumma will get plenty of opportunity when Paris Saint-Germain visit San Siro in the Champions League group stage.

  1. This is the second time that Milan fans have booed Donnaruma at the San Siro while playing for the Nazionale. I think the Italian Federation should never have the Nazionale play at San Siro again.

  2. its milan fans who still salty about his departure to PSG. but what can you expect from bilan fans, that normal behaviour for them.

  3. Donnarumma chose money over Milan and should be booed every time he steps on the field at San Siro. Anyone who disrespects the hand that feeds him deserves it.

  4. Everyone can keep crying about it, meanwhile he will get booed every time he sets foot on the San Siro pitch for the rest of his. If they don’t like it, stop playing Italy matches or him at San Siro.

  5. It’s part of football, I don’t think he is really that bothered to be honest.
If he is bothered then I agree with Milan fan, don’t play him at the San Siro, I mean lets be clear big games will mainly be in Rome anyway.
Also we should be able to play a B team and beat these types of teams.

  6. You would think with a squad of foreign mercenarys , Milanista would appreciate an actual Italian!
