Davide Frattesi insists being second seeds in the Champions League Round of 16 draw is ‘extra motivation’ for Inter and they can go ‘all the way’ to the Final again.
The Nerazzurri needed a victory to guarantee first place in the group and therefore status as top seeds in the draw for the Round of 16, which will be held on Monday.
However, Real Sociedad saw more of the ball at San Siro, even though the hosts had the best scoring opportunities overall.
They both finish the group unbeaten, on 12 points apiece and an identical head-to-head record, but Real Sociedad go through as leaders thanks to a superior overall goal difference.
“La Real are a strong team who know how to play football,” Frattesi told Mediaset.
“We tried to contain them in the first half and push harder in the second. Now we will fight 100 per cent against anyone we get in the draw.”
It is the third year in a row that Inter have gone through to the Round of 16, always as runners-up in their group.
“We are Inter and it is our duty to win against anyone, even the top teams. This gives us extra motivation. We are fired up, now we are focused on Serie A, seeing as we are in first place.”
Simone Inzaghi steered this side to the Champions League Final last season and they have the potential to do it again.
“I believe we can,” noted Frattesi. “Every game is different, but the team is strong and the group is united. We can have our say to the very end.”
Among the potential teams Inter could get in the next round are Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
