Davide Frattesi has put himself in the hunt for a starting spot when Inter face Milan in Serie A after a sensational brace for Italy against Ukraine. ‘When you get goals and three points, then even better.’

The midfielder has received only a couple of substitute appearances in Serie A so far this season for Inter, but was launched in the starting XI this evening when the Azzurri hosted Ukraine in a decisive EURO 2024 qualifier.

He made an immediate impact, scoring both of Italy’s goals in the 2-1 victory, meaning he has netted three and assisted one of the Nazionale’s last five competitive goals.

“The important thing is to bring home the result. When you get goals and three points, then even better,” Frattesi told RAI Sport.

Considering his performance, it could make Inter coach Simone Inzaghi give serious thought to picking Frattesi for the starting XI in the Derby della Madonnina against Milan on Saturday.

“I know that I have a lot to learn and games like this help me to mature a great deal. It is normal that the coach makes his choices, there are players at Inter who are more prepared than I am right now.”

Curiously, Frattesi is now teammates with Nicolò Barella at club level, but the first time they started together was for Italy this evening.
