Les Blues look to bounce back from defeat in these France vs. Poland World Cup predictions. The French are firm favourites to progress past this round of 16 clash, with the opponents only just scraping through the group stage.

France vs. Poland odds

1 – France to win – 4/13

2 – France to score over 1.5 goals – 3/1

3 – Kylian Mbappe to score first – 3/1

4 – Both teams to score 32/21

5 – Robert Lewandowski to score anytime – 9/2

France continue their campaign to retain the World Cup trophy on Sunday as they face Poland at the Al Thumama Stadium. Didier Deschamps’ side are amongst the tournament favourites following a strong showing but will struggle against their physical opponents.

Les Blues have only faced their weekend opponents once in competitive football when the Poles beat them 40 years ago in the World Cup. Fortunately for the French, the odds of a repeat performance are pretty unlikely with the current world champions strong favourites ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Despite a surprise defeat to Tunisia in a non-consequential match day three, we back France to get back to winning ways against Poland and secure their progress within 90 minutes.

The primary reason for French confidence will be the return of almost their entire strongest XI, with nine out of 11 players rotated for Wednesday’s game. With so much football to play, the rest for the likes of Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe should provide a boost to their firepower against a Poland side that will be exhausted following their recent game against Argentina.

A bet on the French to put over 1.5 goals past their opponents could therefore very likely pay off. With the Poland defence and midfield hardly known for their mobility, we also back the in-form and rested Mbappe to make a key difference and open the scoring.

Despite the heavy weighting in favour of France this weekend, Poland should still prove a stiff test. Having bagged his first World Cup goal, Robert Lewandowski will enjoy testing himself against a not-fully convincing French backline, while the likes of Piotr Zielinski are more than capable creators.

It may well be against the run of play, but a bet on the Poland forward to score and on both teams to score will provide slightly higher returns than wagers on the favourites.

France vs. Poland line-ups

France (4-2-3-1) Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Upamecano, Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Debele, Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud

Poland (4-4-2) Szczesny; Cash, Glik, Kiwior, Beresznyski; Zielinski, Szymanski, Krychowiak, Kaminski; Lewanowski, Skoras

France team news

Having made significant rotations in the defeat to Tunisia, Didier Deschamps is expected to revert back to his strongest line up. With his front four all but decided, the question remains whether Joules Kounde will start over Benjamin Pavard at right back. The Eduardo Camavinga experiment at left back is unlikely to stick though, with Theo Hernandez returning.

Poland team news

Czeslaw Michniewicz may ring the changes following Wednesday’s defeat to Argentina. Damian Szymanski could start in central midfield with Krystian Bielik missing out, while Karol Swiderski’s partnership with Robert Lewandowski may also be at risk.
