Emmanuel Macron reportedly congratulated Fiorentina and Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat after Les Blues’ victory in the World Cup semi-finals last night.

The former Hellas Verona man was probably the best defending midfielder in Qatar, where he helped his national team reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

No African team had ever reached this stage in the competition before.

According to Fabrizio Romano, France President Macron, who was in the stands to watch the World Cup semis between Les Blues and Morocco last night, personally congratulated the Fiorentina midfielder while visiting the Africans’ dressing room after the match.

He reportedly told Amrabat that he was the ‘best midfielder of the tournament.’

One of the highlights of Amrabat’s brilliant World Cup was a tackle on Kylian Mbappé, which many pundits called the ‘moment of the World Cup.’

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool in January, but his contract with Fiorentina expires in June 2024 and the Tuscans have an option to extend his stay at the club for one more season.
