Four Italian players were involved in the 25th round of Premier League fixtures over the weekend, including Azzurrini star Cesare Casadei, who made his second ever appearance in the English top flight in a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Casadei was called upon in the 82nd minute as a replacement for striker Nicolas Jackson. Naturally a central midfielder by trade, the 21-year-old slotted into his regular position, while Christopher Nkunku took on the centre-forward role in the closing stages.

Casadei made his second Premier League appearance in four matches since his return from his loan spell in the Championship with Leicester City In the 1-1 draw with last season’s treble winners.

Elsewhere for the Italians in the Premier League, Guglielmo Vicario was on the losing end of a 2-1 result for Tottenham against Wolves.

Spurs have hiccupped slightly in recent weeks, picking up just four points from their last three matches against Wolves, Brighton and lower-half Everton.

Vicario’s compatriot Destiny Udogie was ruled out of the Wolves game with a minor knee problem, but given that Tottenham have no matches scheduled for next weekend, he should be in line to return for the North Londoners’ next match against Crystal Palace on March 2.

Left-back Emerson was also on the losing end in the Premier League this weekend. West Ham’s 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest was not aided by England international Kalvin Phillips’ second-half red card.

Angelo Ogbonna was an unused substitute for the Hammers again, as has been the case for most of the 2023-24 season.

Jorginho was the only other Italian to feature in the Premier League over the weekend. He was summoned on the 79th minute as a replacement for Declan Rice in the 5-0 thrashing of struggling Burnley.

Burnley were again without Italy U21 international Luca Koleosho, who remains out injured long term.

Nicolo Zaniolo was not named in the matchday squad by Aston Villa for their 2-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Sandro Tonali is also unavailable for Newcastle until next term as he serves his season-long suspension.
