Former Serie A side Messina have been put up for sale for a symbolic price of €1.
The Sicilian club have found themselves struggling financially since their relegation from Serie A in 2006-07 and risk being unable to compete in Serie C without new funding.
A message from the club’s president Pietro Sciotti on social media in which he said he would be forced to take difficult decisions if a new buyer was not sold – which could suggest they would not be registered in Italy’s third tier.
The statement read: “I have still not received a single offer for ACR Messina, just a few phone calls to ask for information.
“Last January and then in May I underlined how my last objective was to attain Serie C survival and leave. With immense displeasure, after five years at the helm of the glorious ACR Messina, I repeat my desire to end my time at the club and for this reason, I am ready to sell the club for a symbolic €1.
“It is my final act of live. The deadline is the 24 hours of June 12, if there is no offer, I will look at the situation and make necessary decisions, even if they are difficult.”
Messina earned promotion to Serie A in the 2003-04 season as the top flight expanded from 18 to 20 teams and, despite being favourites for the drop, the finished in seventh place.
The Sicilians remained in the top flight until 2007 but were pulled from Serie B in 2008 amid financial difficulties and were declared bankrupt in 2008.
They have undergone several name alterations and changes of ownership in the subsequent seasons and now compete in Italy’s third tier.

Can I buy them?
Wrong club. Fc messina is the club that went into serie a that is being described and acr messina was last in serie a in 1963. Rookie mistake over here. For whoever wrote this article, please look at your italian football history again, as acr messina is the club up for sale, whereas fc messina was in serie a as mentioned, but it was sadly dissolved.
