Former Inter President Massimo Moratti has weighed in on the situation surrounding Antonio Conte and told the press that he is the ‘most suitable coach’ to win a championship for the Nerazzurri in the event that they part ways with Simone Inzaghi.

Conte left his post as coach of Tottenham on Sunday evening after his contract in North London was terminated by mutual consent.

Since then, there have already been a number of reports that Conte could be set for a return to management in Italy to be closer with his wife and family, who still live in Turin.

Inter are one of the clubs who have been linked with a move to appoint Conte, given the uncertainty surrounding the future of current coach Inzaghi.

Conte lifted the Scudetto with the Nerazzurri at the end of the 2020-21 season, leaving his role a few short weeks after the end of the season and eventually joining Tottenham later on that year.

Speaking to the press this week, Moratti said that: “If you want to win the championship, he’s probably the most suitable coach to achieve that goal. Either way, I haven’t had the chance to talk to Marotta, so I don’t know what to say about it” .

Moratti also spoke of current Inter chairman Steven Zhang, who has been at the helm at San Siro since October 2018.

“I prefer to wait before making a judgement,” he said of the 31-year-old Suning owner. “He has invested a lot in the team and won trophies. Nowadays it’s practically impossible for a family in Europe or in Italy to become the owner of one of the top clubs.”
