Former Inter defender Achraf Hakimi, now at PSG, has been charged with rape, the Nanterre Prosecutor told AFP.

Hakimi was questioned by prosecutors on Thursday in connection with an accusation from a 24-year-old woman.

The investigation is being carried forward by the Prosecutor of Nanterre in the Hauts-de-Seine department, western suburbs of Paris.

A PSG spokesperson told CNN on Thursday that the club “supports the player who has firmly denied the accusations and trusts the justice system. Paris Saint-Germain is an institution that promotes respect on and off the pitch.”

The player’s lawyer Fanny Colin said on Thursday that “The accusations are false… and he is at the disposal of justice,” as quoted by Al Arabiya.

Hakimi spent one season at Inter in 2020-21 winning the Serie A title under Antonio Conte. He scored seven goals in 45 appearances with the Nerazzurri.

The Morocco international joined PSG in the summer of 2021, completing a €60m transfer plus add-ons.
