Former Bologna President Giuseppe Gazzoni Frascara has passed away at the age of 84.

Bologna Uno announced the death of the Honorary President of Bologna, the icon that brought the club back to life in the mid-1990s.

Gazzoni Frascara entered the world of football in 1993, when he saved Bologna from bankruptcy and led them from Serie C to the top tier in only three years.

Big names like Roberto Baggio and Beppe Signori arrived at the Renato Dall’Aran and in 1998 he brought home the Intertoto Cup, prior to a run to the semi-finals in the UEFA Cup.

Gazzoni Frascara’s side remained in Serie A until a play-off defeat to Parma in 2004-05. He sold his majority share to Alfredo Cazzola and was later famous for his role in the Calciopoli battle with Juventus.
