Joe Cole insists Romelu Lukaku must forget about Inter while Thierry Henry doesn’t understand why Chelsea signed the Belgian forward in the summer.

Lukau has been struggling to justify his €113m price tag at Stamford Bridge having only scored ten goals with the Blues this term. The ex-Inter striker remained on the bench for the whole match against Lille yesterday after managing just seven touches in Chelsea’s last Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

Fabio Capello has highlighted the reasons why Lukaku is struggling away from Inter and Antonio Conte, but more football pundits have analysed Lukaku’s situation at Chelsea.

Capello explains why Lukaku excelled under Conte at Inter, flops at Chelsea

The Belgian forward had released an interview with Sky Sport Italia in December to apologise to Inter fans and say that he hopes to return one day.

“I think Tuchel handled it brilliantly, it got put to bed,” Cole told BT Sport.

“I think with Romelu, it is all between his ears. He’s in the situation he’s in, he can’t hanker about being back in Italy.

“He has got the chance here to be Chelsea’s No 9, he’s got the chance to walk in the shoes of Didier Drogba, his hero, the great No 9s we have seen at this club.”

Former Arsenal legend and Juventus striker Thierry Henry offered an even harsher judgement on the ex-Inter striker. Henry worked closely with Lukaku in the summer serving as one of Roberto Martinez’s Belgium assistants during the Euros.

“For Rom to adapt to the way Chelsea play, it takes time, it’s not an easy one,” he told CBS.

“Is it normal that he only has seven touches [against Crystal Palace]? No, that’s also not normal, regardless if the coach likes you or not. That shouldn’t happen.

“The solution is for him to find a solution to make sure he can adapt to the way they play.

“They like to press, to be active and to change the front three. He likes to stay in the middle so it makes it very difficult for him to adapt to the situation.

“But again, why did you go and get him?”

4 thought on “‘Forget about Inter, why did Chelsea sign him?’ Cole and Henry hit out at Lukaku”
  1. Henry reason is make sense, Tuchel rarely play with No 9, in Chelsea nor PSG. Why Chelsea bought him ? At 29 and having a bad season, I doubt many club interested in him

  2. I never understand why clubs would play 100million euros for a player who is 28 and could be past his prime in 3 seasons, and why he is valued at that cost, Same with Harry Kane. I would understand Erling Haaland at 21, but not a 28 year old.

  3. More PL news on Football Italia. As if this league doesn’t get enough coverage worldwide, does it need to be covered on FI? Please stick to Italian football. No one cares about Lukaku or Conte – they have no impact on Italian football at the moment so why cover these people every second article?
