Sandro Tonali thanked Milan fans ‘for their love’ prompting reactions from Alessandro Florenzi, Rade Krunic and Theo Hernandez: ‘Forever one of us.’

Tonali returned to San Siro on Tuesday for a Champions League group-stage game between Newcastle and his ex-club Milan.

Contrary to what has happened with Gigio Donnarumma, Tonali was given a warm reception from Rossoneri supporters at San Siro, both when he started the warmup and when he was subbed off in the second half.

At the end of the game, Tonali shared a message for Milan fans on Instagram: “An incredibile feeling coming back to what has been my home. Thank you everyone for all your love. We take an important point from a difficult stadium. Focused on the next!!”

The Italian midfielder’s message was liked by more than 300,000 people and received over 5,000 comments.

Among them, were those of three ex-Tonali teammates: Florenzi, Krunic and Theo Hernandez.

Florenzi commented with a heart emoji, while Krunic wrote: “This is still your home and it will be as such forever.”

Theo added: “Forever one of us.”

The France international hugged Tonali at San Siro after the final whistle, and the same did many other Milan players including Tommaso Pobega.
