The transfer window is open and Football Italia is in the market for an ambitious, creative and hard-working staff writer to join the team in a freelance position.

As the market leader for English language coverage of Italian football since 1992, Football Italia wants a talented, disciplined and motivated writer for 30 hours a week, working shifts across a seven-day rota.

A passion for all things Calcio is a pre-requisite and the ability to understand Italian is a must. The position will require some evening and weekend work too, so flexibility is important. Pay is competitive and will be disclosed upon application. We are looking for someone based in the UK or Europe.

Writing for Football Italia is a multi-faceted job – we are on top of all the news coming out of the peninsula, as well as anything involving the big-name Italians abroad. But that’s not all there is to it – whether it’s covering matches live, exploring Italian football’s rich history or interviewing the great and the good, writing for Football Italia means covering the fascinating world of Italian football in the most comprehensive manner.

News coverage may be the foundation of what we do at Football Italia but often it is only the beginning, the first step in covering a multi-layered story. How the story is covered from that point on is what makes the difference.

The ideal candidate will have professional writing experience or a journalism qualification, as well as a genuine passion for football. It doesn’t matter if you support Juventus or York City, but you need to follow the beautiful game on a granular level. If you don’t know your Capocannoniere from your Fabio Capello, your Scudetto from your Stefano Pioli or your Gianni Infantino from your IFAB, this may not be the job for you.

But as important as a love for football is, reliability and professionalism are equally crucial. We are all football fans and may shout at underperforming players from the terraces, or bemoan FIFA’s latest hare-brained scheme on social media, but writing for Football Italia is, first and foremost, a job. We expect the highest level of professionalism and the understanding that you are part of a team, and that you maintain the highest professional standards at all times.

With more than 30 years’ history behind it, Football Italia is the biggest platform possible for football writers who have a passion for Italian football. This opening is an opportunity to showcase your skills and develop new ones in a challenging and rewarding role.
