Footage suggests VAR mistake on Juventus-Salernitana goal

New footage has emerged suggesting the Juventus winner against Salernitana was incorrectly disallowed, but the Lega Serie A insist the VAR took Antonio Candreva’s position into account.

The controversial end to the 2-2 draw saw Arkadiusz Milik’s header go in from a corner and it was disallowed because Leonardo Bonucci was considered to be in an offside position and interfering with play.

Max Allegri raised doubts after the match, as did Bonucci, insisting Candreva was near the corner flag and therefore keeping everyone onside.

Sky Sport Italia released camera footage suggesting that at the moment of the Milik header, Candreva was 2.9m from the touchline and Bonucci was 3.42m from the same point, which would mean Bonucci was onside by a good 50cm.

However, the Lega Serie A told DAZN that the line drawn to decide Bonucci’s offside position did take Candreva into account.

VAR have a specific algorithm that takes camera angles into account to calculate a more accurate position on the field, whereas the Sky Sport Italia camera does not.
