Roma coach Paulo Fonseca said it was ‘a heavy result’ after the 3-1 defeat against Inter and vowed to ‘regain our strength for the derby’ against Lazio.

The Giallorossi were beaten 3-1 at San Siro, as Inter continued their successful run in Serie A.

Fonseca felt his men didn’t get the result they ‘deserved’ on Wednesday.

“We let Inter come out on the counterattack in the first half and they scored immediately,” Fonseca told RomaTV. “However, the team reacted well and we played a good second half, creating several chances.

“The result is heavy for what we have done. The team have shown character, we never stopped playing and attacking.

“We created a lot against the best defence in the League. The team tried and I saw the courage I wanted.

“I expected Inter to try to play on the counterattack, and that’s what happened.”

Fonseca said the team are now focused on bouncing back against local rivals Lazio in the next game.

“We have a lot of desire, we want to recover our strength and then we want to win the derby.”
