Fonseca on verge of Milan unveiling as summer approaches

Milan are finalising the final details as they prepare to officially unveil Paulo Fonseca in the coming days, ready to start a new era.

Stefano Pioli’s five-year spell at the club came to an end on May 26th, following the club’s final game of the Serie A season against Salernitana. Whilst there were a number of positives during his time with the Rossoneri, it soon became clear that a change was needed to close the gap to Inter.

Fonseca is now ready to take over at Milan after a positive spell with Lille, keen to return to Serie A following his previous experiences with Roma. He beat out his competition for the job, getting an edge over others like Sergio Conceicao, Mark van Bommel and Julen Lopetegui.

Page 21 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Milan are in the process of resolving the final details to allow Fonseca to officially take over, likely to take place in the next seven to 10 days. The goal is for the coach to be unveiled before the end of this month, allowing him to start his project.

Once the Portuguese tactician has taken over, he will work closely with the Rossoneri to plan the upcoming summer transfer window, needing to find a new centre forward and right back.
